Amble, about 30 miles north of Newcastle Upon Tyne, once had a thriving coal exporting harbour with associated trades, but now the harbour is mainly used by fishing boats and pleasure trips to see nearby Coquet Island, an RSPB bird reserve famous for roseate terns and puffins. There is also a busy marina- a safe berth for many visitors from Europe and Scandinavia; the surrounding area is widely used by bird watchers, coastal walkers and cyclists and families who enjoy exploring the rock pools. As more and more people hear about the delights of Northumbria, Amble, with its award winning Links’ beach voted as one of the Top 10 Secret Beaches by the Sunday Times, makes a delightful base for their exciting discoveries.
There is much to do and see in Amble itself but close by are our wonderful Northumberland castles- Warkworth is just 1.5 miles away; Alnwick Castle and Gardens only 9 miles; Bamburgh and Lindisfarne [Holy Island] approx. 20 miles with lots more castles in the countryside itself.
Plenty of coast and countryside walks, Kielder Forest {the largest man made forest in Europe} and Kielder Water, The Farne Islands, Hadrian’s Wall and many more easily accessible attractions.
Further are the Metro Shopping Centre; the Sage Arts Centre; the Metro Arena; the Angel of the North. Take a day trip to bustling Newcastle or historic Durham; head out earlier and you can visit Edinburgh or the Lake District.
So much to see and do when you stay in our welcoming town, so come and visit us soon.
