40 years service for Councillor Hinson

The 2016 Annual meeting of Amble Town Council marked 40 years since Councillor Ian Hinson was first elected to the Town Council.

Prior to the Annual Meeting the Mayor of 2015-16, Craig Weir presented Cllr Hinson with a certificate honouring this achievement and also a bottle of his favourite ‘tipple’ (funded by personal contributions from the other Councillors).

Councillor Hinson has served as Mayor on several occasions, the most recent being the 2012-2013 term.

Speaking after the presentation, Ian commented ‘I was quite overcome by the presentation, it was very unexpected and I was taken aback to discover that I had been on the Council for 40 years now.  I’ve had my ups and downs over the 40 years but it has been worthwhile and I have tried to make a difference. I would really encourage others especially the younger generation to get involved with this tier of Local Government and hope they find it as rewarding as I have.’

Ian went on to say that ‘having the certificate presented to me is an honour  but I can’t help but wonder whether this is an eloquent way of telling me that my time is up, I now agree’ indicating that he may not be standing for the Council in the 2017 elections.
