COUNCILLOR’S CORNER
We have been remembering the V.E. celebrations- much thought and planning have gone into them. To see the looks on the faces of the people who actually remembered ‘that night’ when, from what I can gather, everybody but everybody, danced and sang, kissed friends and neighbours. It must have been tremendous after all those years of war to be told ‘the lads’ will be coming home- it is over. The relief the people must have felt we cannot imagine. They were a very brave proud generation. Would we survive the same now or would we spend our time bemoaning the fact we have not got this or that. How would we go on without email- let alone food rationing- it makes me wonder. I just would like to take this opportunity to say to all the survivors of that generation, a big thank you for all the hardships you suffered at home, let alone the soldiers suffered, but for the women left at home working miracles with very little, keeping the kids safe, fed, clothed, and looking after each other. Britain is proud of you- thank you.
