Many allotments have recently been reallocated but there is still a waiting list for tenancies. Those who have been there a long time are being encouraged to reduce the number of structures they have as many have now become more intrusive and detract from the main purpose of an allotment. New tenants are removing old huts etc. which have deteriorated and become quite dilapidated over the years and erecting new storage for their tools after getting permission from the committee. This has been introduced as it is important that tenants use a minimum of 75% of the allotment for cultivation of fruit and vegetables and also that no permanent structures are erected so as not to impede any future tenancies. It is very encouraging to see more families spending time working together and growing their own produce.
