New water play feature at Amble Paddlers

Work to create a new water play feature in a popular Amble park will start next week.  Amble Paddlers, well known for its circular paddling pools, is about to undergo a revamp, with the installation of a new water pump and cascade play feature in the place of the old disused paddling pools.

Work will start on demolishing the old paddling pools next week and once the site is cleared, new landscaping and play features will be installed along with the water feature.  Footpaths will be improved and outdoor fitness equipment will also be installed.

The work is jointly funded by Northumberland County Council, Amble Town Council and contributions from Councillor Robert Arckless and Councillor Jeff Watson, as well as a grant from Northumberland County Council’s Section 106 fund.  It follows extensive consultation by Amble Town Council about the future of the site, where it was unanimously agreed that a water play feature should be retained.

Contractors will be on site from Monday 8th June, and the works should take approximately ten weeks to complete.  Some areas will need to remain closed during the works, but the play area will remain open.

Councillor Val Tyler, Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “It’s fantastic news for the local community that this well-loved facility is being redeveloped.

“Not only will a new water feature be installed, a range of extra fitness equipment will be put in and once complete should be a real centrepiece for the area.”

County Councillor and Town Councillor Robert Arckless commented ‘I am absolutely delighted that work is about to start on the Paddlers Project, this would not have happened without really good partnership working between the Town and County Council, with input from Amble Community Team.  I know how keen Amble is to see new life injected into this area and now it is actually happening’.
