After the service at Radcliffe War Memorial on Saturday 2nd November, everyone gathered in the East Cemetery for a service to bless the new Commonwealth War Grave Commission’s headstone erected for Private Crackett. Although buried here, until recently his stone had been in Amble West Cemetery entrance. There are numerous reasons suggested for this but today there is no-one around to tell us the full truth. Suffice it to say that CWGC decided to place his stone in its rightful place in the East Cemetery.
His descendants from London, South Wales, Milan and Zurich joined us to mark the occasion and spoke about his short life and the effect of his death upon his family. Rev. Lynda Coulthard conducted a very personal moving service to honour him and Mr Creasey accompanied the singing of the National Anthem. Poppy symbols were laid in thanks for his life and to honour his memory.
