Radcliffe War Memorial Re-dedication Ceremony

Despite the weather’s best attempts to drown us or blow us away, we were not deterred and went ahead with the rededication of Radcliffe War Memorial on Saturday 2nd November. The panels, names and stonework of the War Memorial have all been beautifully restored by Hirst Conservation engaged by Amble Town Council and financed by money from that body and a grant from the War Memorials Trust.

Radcliffe War Memorial (440x330)

The Amble detachment of Army Cadets formed a line and their new standard joined those of the Royal British Legion and the Association of Military Police. Mr Creasey played to signal the two minutes silence and the National Anthem. Chairman Craig Weir and Ian Moyle representing the people of Radcliffe laid a floral tribute on behalf of the town. The service, conducted by Father Cairns, was well attended and those present felt it was a moving tribute to the Radcliffe men who died in the two World Wars.

Everyone agreed the importance of these events as tributes to those who gave their lives not only then but in conflicts since. Hopefully their memorials will be treated with respect by all.
