MenuEach year, the North East Raising Aspiration Partnership (NERAP) delivers a free programme of activity for Young Carers, called You-NE Cares. This Programme consists of a series of Family Fun days and a university-based Residential experience. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it has not been possible to deliver You-NE Cares in person this year. I am however, delighted to confirm that a series of free online sessions will be offered in place of the on campus events, w/c 27th July 2020.
You-NE Cares allows students to increase their confidence, skills and aspirations to achieve their personal goals through a variety of workshops and activities. During the programme, young people will be able to explore their strengths and motivations to inform future decisions on further study and careers that could be of interest.
The sessions will be released over three days, beginning Monday 27th July. Once registered, the information on how to access each will be sent directly to the participant’s email address. These sessions are all pre-recorded, but will be supported by our brilliant team, who will be available on a live chat all week to support. Session details are as follows:
- Monday 27th July: Welcome and Student Life. The team will lead an online session to introduce life as a student, as well as all the extracurricular activities to get involved with. There’ll also be an interactive quiz to follow along with.
- Wednesday 29th July: You’re Hired! Business Session. By popular demand, we have created our very first take-home activity! This will be launched on Wednesday, and students will have until Friday to create their own business along with their family and friends. We’ll ask for these to be submitted, and we’ll showcase on our website.
- Friday 31st July: To wrap up, we’ll outline the welfare and support services available to young carers while at university. this includes dedicated support groups, scholarships and bursaries.
Registration is now open online at www.nerap.ac.uk/youngcarers. Sign-up is by an online form, or alternatively telephone bookings can be made on 0191 208 3128, where a message can be left for us to return your call. Once a registration has been made, we will be in touch directly by the details provided with a welcome video and further information.
We really value your support in identifying young carers to take part in this Programme and ask you to pass this information on to any young person who you believe would benefit from attending. There are a limited amount of spaces, therefore we encourage participants to enrol as soon as possible. I have attached a copy of our digital flyer with all the information about the event.
