After meeting with NCC and representatives of Amble Community Team, we are told that gaining grant funding to revitalise the whole area could take up to 4 years. Whilst a new type of water feature is planned for the future alongside other play and recreational features, we all agree the area of the old pools is a terrible mess now! They are completely unrepairable due to the badly deteriorated surface and a large leak and unusable due to water pressure and hygiene problems as well as current health and safety regulations.
Whilst detailed planning goes on for the whole project, the suggestion is to fill in the pools and resurface that area with a colourful hard stand with play options painted on. So far, suggestions include snakes and ladders, hopscotch, footprints, twister, a labyrinth, a roller skating ‘run’ as well as concrete table tennis. This might be made possible with a grant bid- but the deadline is in the next two weeks! Any other ideas for games which could be painted on the surface would be welcomed in the next 7 days.
Let’s all get behind this first stage idea to have a wonderful recreational park of which we can be proud.
The Town Council will be meeting with NCC again to discuss further on 23rd October.
