Gardens of Amble’s 3 wards (East, West and Central) were judged by Trevor Jones (Head Gardener, Alnwick Gardens) who was accompanied by a Councillor from each of the wards, on Tuesday 10^th July 2012- thankfully the rain held off for most of the day!

The shortlist of gardens, nominated by members of the public and ward councillors, produced a larger number than in previous years.

Mr Jones, who was unable to attend the Awards Ceremony, was very impressed by the standard achieved by all considering the extremely changeable weather earlier in the year.

The allotments were judged by Councillor Les Bilboe who remarked on the all round improvement in both the East and West areas; it was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic people growing their own delicious vegetables.

A virtual garden award, a new section added this year primarily for those whose gardens are enclosed and therefore not seen by the public, produced some wonderful photos which were judged on the website by public vote.

The Garden Award Ceremony, held on Friday 27^th July 2012 in the Trinity Methodist Church, was well attended. Mayor, Councillor Ian Hinson, thanking everyone for their wonderful efforts and hard work, handed out certificates and presented winners with engraved crystal gifts. The Group winners received a gift to be shared by all participants. The overall best garden was also awarded a Silver cup to hold for a year.  The evening ended with light refreshments.

Mayor, Councillor Ian Hinson attended a Coffee Morning on 9^th August at St Oswald’s Court where he presented a box of biscuits and box of chocolates for winning the Best Group.

Amble Town Council would like to thank members of public for their garden nominations, those who entered the virtual awards online and the residents who attended the Garden Award Ceremony.
