The Mayor Leslie Bilboe presented RNLI – Amble Lifeboat Fundraisers with a cheque for £526 on Monday 14th November.
Mr Isaacs, the Chairman of the fundraising group, approached the Council for help in funding lifejackets for the crew of the Amble Inshore Lifeboat. Funding was agreed by the Council to cover the cost of 2 new lifejackets.
Mr Isaacs stated ”the lifejackets are an essential part of the kit for each member of the crew – the current lifejackets are in the process of being updated and replaced for the first time by one that is designed specifically for search and rescue”.
Mr Isaacs explained that the new lifejackets have been designed by RNLI following consultation with crews around the country of which many suggestions have been incorporated.
Amble RNLI station has had 30 launches so far in 2011 and were launched 46 times in 2010.
The Mayor commented ”the Town Council were happy to support RNLI. The crew who are volunteers that live and/or work in Amble and the surrounding area provide an extremely valuable service in keeping both residents and visitors safe and for this we are very grateful”.
