Mayor Craig Weir, Amble Town Council, Inspector Liz Hall, Northumbria Police and Gareth Garter from Alncom were in town today looking over the completed phases of the CCTV network. Thanks to finance from the Council and local County Councillors Clark and Watson, the system now covers many central parts of the town, Acklington Road and Percy Drive. “The CCTV installed within the town will be used by Northumbria Police to actively deal with all anti social behaviour and reckless driving within our town” Councillor Terry Clark
In the future it is hoped to extend the coverage to encompass the A1068 and other areas of the town. Installed by Alncom, cameras are of high specifications designed for greater clarity of identification as can be seen in this still image taken on Queen Street. Recordings are constant, and Northumbria Police have access to the images 24/7 to assist in combating crime and anti-social behaviour. County Councillor Jeff Watson said “I am delighted to help Amble to upgrade and improve its CCTV coverage. I sincerely hope there are a few individuals who are not pleased about the upgrade and will be deterred from the mindless vandalism that we have had experience of in the past. The money that my fellow councillor and I have donated is from our members small schemes allowance and I am sure will benefit the Town and its residents”.
