Mayor Jane Dargue met with Peter Proctor- Cannon to thank him for his fund-raising efforts for the War Memorial repairs. He spent more 12 weekends in the Town Square, meeting and greeting townspeople and visitors. He talked to them about the history of the Memorial and the need for work to be carried out, as well as his military service experiences. His wife Ruth had made magnets to sell and others donated items too.
Peter raised well over £3000 which is a tremendous boost to the funds. Others in the community have gathered together and held fund raising events for which the Council would like to thank them. All of those who have organised any of these events are asked to write to the Council giving details of their event, who was involved and their links to the Memorial or the town itself. The Council would like to have this record so future generations can read of how the community helped to repair this iconic memorial which itself was originally built through public donations and fund raising.
