The Town Council have funded two new pedal cycles for Amble based Neighbourhood Officers.
The bicycles which were purchased at Amble firm Breeze Bikes were presented by Amble Mayor, Jane Dargue, to PCSO’s Julie Wright and Kenneth Mouat on 16th November at Coquet Enterprise Park.
The bicycles will be used by the Officers to make them more visible and improve engagement with Members of the public. They will also be able to deal more quickly with anti-social behaviour in the area.
Pedal cycles have been used by police to combat local vehicle crime, patrolling areas in early hours of the morning when criminals are active but not drawing attention with the sound of engines.
Cllr Dargue commented ‘Community policing is something that has always been important to our town. It will be a very welcome sight to see police officers out and about around Amble both on bikes as well as on foot. I am very happy that the Council have been able to help to facilitate this – also a big thanks to Mark Breeze for his help both in supplying the bikes and his help and advice in our efforts to encourage a more cycle friendly approach throughout the town’.
